I thought racism against the African-Americans were history. I mean, sure they must face some sort of racism from day to day but then again, all non-whites do as well. But the severity of the racist remarks and treatments didn't occur to me until I saw a video of a cop in Walmart harassing a couple of African-American guys for absolutely no reason. I thought it was downright terrible what he did. He asked for their ID, nearly tased them, and the voice of these men...these men who were harassed just for being black. You could feel how hurt they were, and the way their voice dropped so suddenly, the way they became so polite and calm, as if this was a common occurrence and they knew not to cross any line because whatever they say can be misconstrued and held against them. Watch the video, and then watch the spoken word poetry by Javon Johnson. Martin Luther King had a dream, but there's still a long way to go.
